Benzene is a flammable, colorless liquid that has a sweet odor to it when it is exposed to the air, although it evaporates very quickly (ACS). Benzene is one of the twenty most used chemicals in the United States because it is commonly used as a starting material to make other chemicals like dyes, rubbers and plastics (ACS).
